Air Fryer Smoked Ribs – Juicy on the Inside and Crispy on the Outside

There are days when you feel like something spectacular. Something of those dishes that smell like the weekend, like a slow barbecue and food made with love… but without spending hours in the kitchen or turning on the oven. 🍖🔥

If you have ever thought that making smoked ribs at home is complicated, long or only suitable for experts with a smoker, this recipe will change your mind completely. With the air fryer you can get tender, juicy ribs with that irresistible smoky touch in much less time.

These air fryer smoked ribs have everything we are looking for: meat that falls off the bone, a tasty and slightly caramelized crust, and an aroma that whets the appetite from the first minute. In addition, you make little mess and the result is constant.

The first time I prepared them was out of pure curiosity… and since then they have become one of my star recipes when I want to show off without complicating things. Once you’ve tried it like this, it’s hard to go back 😋

WHY THIS RECIPE IS PERFECT

These ribs are not only good, they are designed to turn out right the first time. And that shows in every detail:

  • Time savings: nothing like 3 hours in the oven. In less than an hour you have spectacular ribs.
  • Real smoked flavor: Thanks to the smoked paprika and the final sealing, the flavor is reminiscent of traditional barbecue.
  • Perfect texture: tender on the inside, with crispy edges and caramelized on the outside.
  • Less cleaning: The air fryer prevents splatters and grease all over the kitchen.
  • Ideal to surprise: family meals, dinners with friends or a Sunday treat.
  • 🎁 Unexpected bonus: Controlling the cooking point is much easier than in the oven or grill.

INGREDIENTS EXPLAINED

For the ribs:

1–1.5 kg pork baby back ribs 🍖

For the dry rub:

2 tablespoons smoked paprika 🌶️

1 tablespoon garlic powder 🧄

1 tablespoon onion powder 🧅

1 tablespoon brown sugar 🍯

1 teaspoon ground cumin 🌿

1 teaspoon mustard powder

1 teaspoon black pepper ⚫

1 teaspoon salt 🧂

½ teaspoon chili powder or cayenne 🔥

2–3 tablespoons olive or mustard oil 🫒

Barbecue sauce to taste (optional) 🍅

Grades: You can adjust the spiciness, use coconut sugar or change the sauce for a homemade one.


EQUIPMENT AND PREPARATION

What you need:

Air fryer from 4 to 6 liters.

Bowl to mix the rub.

Kitchen paper and tongs.

Useful accessories:

Tray or perforated paper for air fryer.

Silicone sauce brush.

Previous preparation:

Leave the ribs at room temperature 15 minutes beforehand.

Have the rub prepared in advance.

Total prep time: 10–15 minutes.


STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

🔴 ①

Remove the silver membrane from the back of the ribs. This is key so that they are tender and absorb the flavor better. Use a knife to lift it and cover with kitchen paper.

🔴 ②

Dry the ribs well with absorbent paper. A dry surface helps the rub adhere better.

🔴 ③

Mix all the dry rub ingredients in a bowl. Rub the ribs with oil or mustard and massage the mixture generously on both sides.

🔴 ④

Cover and let rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. If you can leave them overnight, the flavor multiplies.

🔴 ⑤

Preheat the fryer to 180°C. Add the ribs and cook for 25–30 minutes, turning halfway through.
