Perfect for quick dinners, snacks with friends or any moment that deserves a miniature gourmet touch.
The combination of juicy meat, smoky barbecue sauce, melted gouda cheese and caramelized onion creates an incredible contrast: sweet, salty and slightly smoky in every bite 🤤. And the best: the air fryer makes everything much easier, without splashes and with a uniform and spectacular result.
The first time I made them at home was during a game with friends and they were gone within minutes. Since then, they have become a fixture whenever I want to impress without going overboard.

BBQ Sliders with Caramelized Onion in Air Fryer
For the burgers:
🥩 400 g minced beef (15–20% fat)
🧂 Salt and black pepper to taste
🧀 6–8 slices of gouda cheese
🥯 6–8 slider or mini brioche buns
For the BBQ sauce:
🥫 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce (your favorite)
For the caramelized onion:
🧅 2 medium onions
🫒 1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon brown sugar (optional, to speed up caramelization)
Grades:
– You can use smoked cheddar or gouda cheese to vary the flavor.
– BBQ sauce can be homemade or purchased.
– The sliders can be prepared with gluten-free bread if you wish.
What you need:
– Air fryer (4–5 liters ideal)
– Large bowl for meat
– Small frying pan to caramelize the onion (optional, although it can be done in the fryer)
– Spatula and tongs
Previous preparation:
Cut the onions into fine julienne strips, prepare the rolls and have the BBQ sauce ready. This will allow you to assemble the sliders quickly when the meat and cheese are ready 🧑🍳
In a small skillet with oil over medium-low heat, cook the onions slowly until golden and sweet, about 10–12 minutes. If you want to speed it up, add a pinch of brown sugar. Alternatively, cook in the fryer at 160°C for 10–12 minutes, stirring halfway through.
Divide the meat into 6–8 portions. Flatten them into discs slightly larger than bread. Season just before cooking.
Place them in the basket without crowding them. Cook at 190°C for 6–8 minutes, turning halfway through cooking. At the last minute, place the gouda cheese on top to melt.
Open the buns and toast them for 2 minutes at 180°C for a crispy and golden touch.
Place bread base, a little BBQ sauce, burger with melted cheese, caramelized onion and cover with the top bun. Press lightly and serve instantly.
– Caramelize slowly so that the onions are sweet and tender.
– Gouda cheese melted at the last minute for perfect texture.
– Lightly toasted bread provides crunchy contrast.
– Resting for 2 minutes before serving improves integration of flavors.
